yay for food :)
Jun. 10th, 2010 06:52 pmAmazing how much difference food makes. I was sugar crashing _really_ badly when I got back. Heck, I'd even had a snack before blogging! Had more food just now, and am feeling MUCH better.
I went to the ballet today. :) It was awesome. :)
It was a triple feature: Pur ti Miro (world premiere), Opus 19/The Dreamer and West Side Story Suite. Ironically, although I went specifically because of the West Side Story Suite, I enjoyed the other two much more!
Pur ti Miro was a very traditional ballet - costumes and movements - with modern touches. You can see a clip of the performance on the National Ballet website. :) In contrast, the other two were very modern - not a tutu in sight! * Seriously, the costumes in Opus 19 resembled a second skin more than clothing. And the WSSS dancers were wearing street clothing! Jeans and high heels! I'm amazed at what you can do wearing jeans! (clip of WSSS)
One thing I love about the National Ballet is that they have rush ticket sales for _everyone_, not just students. I was planning to buy a $20 nosebleed ticket. (fourth level of seating is split between $20 and $50 seats, and it goes up from there - so to speak) Instead, I got a $30 ticket RIGHT NEXT TO THE STAGE!!! Directly above the orchestra pit! So I could see the dancers very, very clearly. It was awesome. :) Though I must admit that there are disadvantages to sitting directly above the tuba… Spent a good part of WSSS with a finger in my left ear. :(
snooness ' rule of
baker_kitty applied. *lol* I ran into one of the volunteers from the Gardiner Museum. :P Cool, eh!
High point: seeing every detail of the dancing, the expressions, and the muscle movements. Low point: seeing the male lead so sweaty that he literally sprayed sweat when he spun, and then the female lead having to put her head on his chest. Blegggh. Though I must admit that the foot-wide aura of sweat around one of the other guys was hilarious. *g* All three parts of the program were highly athletic. Those dancers got a workout!!!
Food before hand: on the advice of the ticket clerk, I went to a Vietnamese fast food place called Ginger, a couple of blocks away from the venue. The fast-moving line stretched all the way to the door - and for good reason! Super cheap and delicious!!! I had SPICY beef papaya salad and a soursop smoothie. If I were staying longer, I'd go back. :)
So, now out for the evening with my cousin and his wife. :) Should be fun. :) This is a good trip. :)
*Sorry
tartysuz - couldn't resist!
